Stories of people of agra - Sangeeta Sagar.
A mother's love knows no bound, it has the power beyond any other power and though it varies case to case but a mother's love for their own child is infinite. That's the story we are going to talk about, the story of love, a mother's love for her son. The love that makes her to become a special educator and open her own charitable centre from being a housewife. The love that has made it possible for her to become limitless.
On 01st October 2002, Harshit was born and with that her life changed completely. He had hydrocephalus , which effected his brain and mobility. He was a special child, and Sangeeta jee wanted to give him all the care in the world but the question was how?
Sangeeta jee and her husband tried all the ways, from Operations to Aloepathic medicines to Ayurdevic treatment to Homeopathy along with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, special education etc. It was really difficult for them as they belonged to middle class family and had no direction about how to help him. They felt helpless.
In 2007, Harshit started going to Asha school, and Sangeeta jee also went to school with him and helped him a lot and she cared a lot for the rest of the children. She joined Asha school as a volunteer and spent a lot of time with the children there.
Sangeeta jee's new life started from there. The Principal of the school advised her to learn courses for special children so that she could understand them more thoroughly and can also teach them.
In 2011, Sangeeta jee went to Mumbai with Harshit and got admission in Helen Keller institute for deaf and deafblind in Mumbai and her boy also started learning there.
" I was taking the course, an extensive course that got me to travel across Mumbai for practical studies, I was also taking care of Harshit and trying very hard to improve his condition.
I was so deeply involved in learning that even taking up studies after a long gap of 20 years felt natural. It was really challenging but the love for my child kept me motivated"
It was seen in her result as she was highly appreciated by all the teachers and students there.
Harshit underwent a foot operation and the operation was unsuccessful, that was really disheartening for the family and After completion of the course they came back to Agra.
She joined Asha school again, this time as a special educator.
Sangeeta jee and his family kept trying to improve Harshit's condition but he passed away on 10th June 2017
"All this while I only had one goal in my mind, one aim that my child will get better and live a better life. Everything I did was for him, and even though he is gone now he stills motivates me to do the same thing for every other special child"
Sangeeta ji has a big heart as what happened to her child, She did not want to see this happen to anyone else. So she opened a society in the name of her son- Harshit Memorial Divyang Charitable School. Today she is teaching 11 children and also teaching sign language to 10 children. Her husband and her elder son have also contributed to this. Today, during this epidemic, she is teaching everyone through online classes even though it's new to her.
She learnt how to teach online on her own and came up with different ways to make the learning more interactive for the children. She has also started indian sign language courses for parents of deaf children so that they can easily interact with their children easily.
"Harshit gave us the power to do everything, We saw Harshit as a blessing from God, he used to recite bhajans and mantras from a very early age and the only way to make him truly happy was through music and bhajan. He was a blessing from the God and now we are doing god's good work in his name.
I want that every special child and their family should have direction. That's what we are trying to achieve here"
