Stories Of People Of Agra - Konika Mittal

S.P.A

Stories Of People Of Agra Conducted By Agra Aur Hum.

Konika Mittal is a self employed woman and the owner of SHOP_UNSCULPTED. She is an English literature student who is currently pursuing her B.Ed. She is a teacher, an editor, a content writer, and now an entrepreneur with Unsculpted.

Her journey with Unsculpted started in January 2020 when she was going through a tough time mentally and needed to divert her mind to something more productive. And what better way to do that than to indulge in art and express herself. Initially, she started working as an artist making art pieces using cement and Plaster of Paris. While she was making cement pieces and researching about its techniques, she came across this new material called Polymer Clay. She did her intensive research and self taught herself the art of making polymer clay pieces while going through several trials and errors to finally master the art.

Basically polymer clay is a synthetic type of modelling clay which comes from a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) base added to plasticizers, fillers, and colouring agents. All of these components work together to give polymer clay its flexibility, texture, softness, and vibrant colours.Once it is sculpted and baked, it turns into plastic thus it is non toxic, doesn’t fade away, doesn’t change shape, water resistant, and all weather resistant.

You can make just about anything you can dream up with polymer clay. From chic wall art and home décor to handmade jewellery polymer clay is one of the most versatile and durable crafting media available.
In India, Polymer Clay is still a newer concept and very few people are aware of it. Since polymer clay is not produced in India and is imported from abroad, the current Pandemic was sure to add its own set of challenges, making it even more difficult for her. The availability of clay and its tools during this time was to be the biggest obstacle in her way. So when she started her venture, it was her passion, determination, and perseverance that made her pave her way through the difficulties and finally be able to start her page on Instagram in this July from where she primarily handles her business.

Currently she is only dealing with jewellery but plans on expanding her business to more than 20 categories of items.
On being asked about her family and their response to her venture, she says that her family has been her pillar of strength. They all are very supportive and encouraging.
